Calgary Marathi Association has supported Marathi families across Calgary, Airdrie, Okotoks, Lethbridge and surrounding communities since 1985. CMA continues to bring people together through cultural celebrations, language, volunteer service, and shared community care.
A community built together
For more than four decades, the Calgary Marathi Association (CMA) has been dedicated to supporting the welfare and well-being of the community in Calgary and the surrounding areas. Guided by the evolving needs of the community, CMA delivers programs and initiatives that benefit children, youth, families, seniors, newcomers, and individuals in need.
Whether someone is newly settling in Calgary or has been part of the community for many years, CMA provides opportunities to connect, participate, volunteer, celebrate, and contribute. Through cultural, educational, social, and community service initiatives, CMA fosters a welcoming environment where individuals and families can build meaningful relationships, preserve their heritage, and strengthen their sense of belonging.

About the Marathi language
Preserving the Marathi Language and Heritage
Marathi is an Indo-Aryan language spoken by the Marathi people, primarily in the western and central regions of India. It is the official language of the state of Maharashtra and is spoken by nearly 100 million people worldwide.
With a literary tradition spanning over 2,000 years, Marathi is one of the oldest modern Indo-Aryan languages, renowned for its rich heritage of literature, poetry, theatre, music, and philosophy. The language continues to play a vital role in preserving the cultural identity and traditions of Marathi-speaking communities across the globe.
Through its Marathi Language School (Shaala), cultural celebrations, educational initiatives, and community events, the Calgary Marathi Association (CMA) is committed to preserving and promoting the Marathi language and heritage for future generations. These programs help children and adults strengthen their language skills, connect with their cultural roots, and foster a sense of pride and belonging within Calgary’s diverse multicultural community.
